"A hundred kids celebrating new year" (百子嬉春) is a classic Chinese art subject. "A hundred" is liberally used in Chinese literature to mean "many", not necessarily exactly a hundred. The subject embodies prosperity, happiness, and fertility.

The original art piece was a fan painting (on a hand fan, not by a "fan") by Su Hanchen (苏汉臣), circa 1150 CE. The "hundred kids" pen holders are typically bamboo carves of the same subject. Stronghero3d made a highly detailed 3d sculpture in the style of a bamboo carve (thank you!) but it was only a surface and prints solid. I remixed it into a proper pen holder.

The pen holder measures 18.4cm tall because Traditional Chinese brush pens are very long. At full scale the pen holder would be unusable for western pens. Therefore I also made a shallow version where the bottom 40% is solid. You may also print the regular version at a 50% scale, although details may not show as well, and the pen holder may be too unstable. To get the best result, print the shallow version at full scale. Do check the printing settings below. Enjoy!

Notes:

I printed at 0.1mm for full detail. I'm not sure if 0.2mm will be good enough.

Support everywhere is needed. 75-80 degrees is enough. Make sure to use 1mm support surface, otherwise support will be impossible to remove.

I'm not sure why the model will not load flat on surface. You only need to shift the model down by 1mm to get the bottom on the printing surface.

Takes a LONG time to print (my 0.1mm took 40 hrs), but the details are incredible and totally worth it!
