Summary

If you enjoy the movie "Oblivon" with Tom Cruise and Morgan Freeman, you also might want your very own "evil R2-D2 / Portal Sentry" Drone model!

This is my take on a replica of the awesome drones from the film (sorry, it doesn't come with sound effects!)

Special thanks to BrandonW6 for allowing me to reuse his model for the guns (if it ain't broke don't fix it, right?) and for inspiring me to attempt my most challenging CAD modeling project to date.

Parts you'll need (see the 3rd image for all printed parts):
1x Drone Front Half_fixed.STL
1x Drone Back Half_fixed.STL
1x Engine-Main.STL
2x Engine-Secondary.STL
1x Engine-Tertiary.STL
1x Engine-Quaternary.STL
1x Faceplate.STL
2x Inner_Gun_Section_fixed.STL
2x Outer_Gun_Section_fixed.STL
2X Linkage Mount.STL
2X My Linkage v4_fixed.STL

Optional:
1x Stand.STL

Note: Please excuse the triangular wedges on "My Linkage v4". They are too thin to slice and print and are just an artifact of the "loft feature" I used when making the model. You can see in the actual parts that this wedge does not print out.

The front and back half pieces have holes for a bit of spare filament to use for alignment and to better hold the glue. I simply used White Elmer's Glue-All (PVA glue) to hold the parts together. You could also use cyanoacrylate (super glue).

Print Settings

Printer: Wanhao Duplicator i3

Rafts: No

Supports: Yes

Resolution: 100 microns looks great!

Infill: 20% or whatever works best for you

Notes:

I printed my front and back halves without any infill, just 2 perimeters to save filament. These two parts will require support because they are half-circle arches. Nothing else should need any support though.

Post-Printing

More info:

I didn't have any white filament, so I wound up priming this with a can of spray primer then using an airbrush to paint it white, hence why it's so smooth looking (PLA print). If you can print white ABS and acetone vapor smooth it you might wind up with a very shiny smooth drone!
