Please enjoy this Sojourner Rover model. I use this model as my first player marker when playing Terraforming Mars. It is designed to give the likeness of the real rover, but with robustness in mind. That is, this model has to be put into a box with many other heavy parts, so it is designed to not easily break.
The model is fairly easy to assemble. You will need to print:
4 of wheel-front-back.stl
2 of middle-wheel.stl
6 of wheel axel-2.stl
2 of combined wheel arm.stl (make sure to mirror one of them).
2 of sensor eye.stl
2 of face bracket.stl
1 of sensor-bar-front.stl
1 of body.stl
1 of battery.stl
1 of solar array.stl
(This is not as large of a print as it seems, the assembled model weighs 39.5g).
The face brackets connect to the sensor-bar-front and then attach to the body. You place the sensor eyes onto body where the sensor bar allows space.
Attach the sensor, battery, and the solar array to the body as well.
Attach the wheels to the combined wheel arms, then attach the wheel axels.
Finally, attach the combined wheel arms to the body.
You will need flush cutters and/or an exacto knife to clean up some edges, but if you have an accurate printer, you will not need to do much. Places that tend to need some work:
the sensor hole on the body may need trimming
the holes to attach the wheels to the wheel arm may need trimming (I print with supports but they still sag a bit)
the axles on front and back may not fit all the way, trim 1mm off the small end (the hole in the wheel arm ends up drooping)
Print the wheel arm with supports as well
Print at a larger scale if you have trouble printing the small parts
Have fun mixing and matching colors!
