This is a model of the first american satellite in space the Explorer 1.
It was launched February 1, 1958, 03:48 UTC and it discovered the Van Allen radiation belt by which wasnt planned and a big discovery.
This model is in 1:5 scale an is about 40cm tall. Slice it up in pieces you like to print it. There is a tube in the inside of the model so you could use the pin i included in the files to align the parts for gluing. For the antennas you could use 1mm steelwire.
This is one of my first models but i am looking forward to create more. As soon as my first print of it will be finished i will upload some pictures. I would love if you guys could provide feedback if you print this model and also if you see some inaccuracies.
Now including a stand and a wall mount. Its up to you if you would like to have your Explorer 1 on a stand (it looks more like a rocket this way) or mounted of the wall.
The wall mount is splitted into four pieces.
Just mount the "wall piece" with the mounting hole in it on your wall. Glue the rod to the part that slides over the "wall piece" than stick the "clamp" to it in an orientation you like.
I designed the "clamp part" for printing in some flexible filament and i am not sure if it will work with PLA.
The stand is included in two versions. As a complete model but like the rocket with a tube inside and also as a sliced version. I designed like the rocket with a tube inside that fits the pin used also for the rocket. So there is no need for supports a the stand as well.
If you guys thing the stand is to small just message me or write a comment and I will draw a bigger one. At the moment the stand isnt to big and holds the rocket really well.
FYI: I havent tested the wall mount yet, so there is a chance that i wont work but it should be fine.
I hope you like the model!
Edit: I just printed my model in three pieces. Everything work well, i will upload the sliced parts also. The joining pins with a diameter of 5.9mm fitted the tube inside the model with a diameter of 6mm very well and everything was perfectly aligned. Depending on how accurate your printer is you may need to scale the pins. The holes for the antennas were a little to small. I heated up the antenna ends to push them in and than i secured them with a tiny drop of superglue that worked well. Again i hope this model will find some fans. And i hope i will be able to provide more spacecraft models soon.
