The Butterfly Queen
This art was inspired in part by Simon O'Rourke carvings.

I have been given opportunity to try out the Mooz-2 printer and couldn't think of a better way than to design a couple models for use on it.  I’ve designed this model for use with the 3D printer and laser engraving attachments.  The print files fit into its 130, 130, 130 print volume.   Read below if you want to know more about the printer and laser I used.

Some supports needed for the upper body.  You can add your own or try the built-in support file.  You may need to file down the wing connection points, as I left the a little wide.

In regard to the Mooz-2 printer:
The printer itself does an amazing job.  It has a small build volume but ridged construction.  This made for, in my experience, extremely accurate and smooth layers.  This really helped with the finishing.  The printer was quick to assemble (30 minutes) and once I got used to the handheld controller, easy to level.   It took me longer to configure Cura than it did to get this printer running.

The laser engraver attachment was used for the wood base and it worked great.  The 1.6w laser is does a good job doing clean, dark marks, as can be seen in the attached photos.  It’s able to print at very high resolution so I had no problem with the fine details.  The current software only supports raster images.  It would be nice if it also supported vector files as this would speed up the process.

The included file "Top Half" is the raster image I used for the laser engraving.  I purchased the wood base from my local craft store.

The final attachment is the cnc router.  I’ve only used the router on a few test pieces so far.  It works, but again it runs off of a raster image system.   I have an idea for a future model and how I may incorporate it into the design so keep an eye out if you're interested.

Let me know if you have any questions about my experience with the Mooz-2 and I’ll be happy to answer them if I can.
