by Erazo

It flies at the speed of sound while searching for prey, and it has midair battles with Salamence as the two compete for food.

A massive Garchomp. Printed at 100% scale, it's over a foot from nose to tail tip. Original model was downloaded from The Models Resource. I retopologized, smoothed, and posed the model, then cut it up to fit my printer.

Notes:

I highly recommend reinforcing the feet and legs by pouring a slush coat of epoxy or polyester (fiberglass) resin inside. There is a lot of weight being supported and if you're a little too rough the leg will snap if it's not reinforced. I also poured some plaster inside the legs to keep his center-of-mass as low as possible.

Print the arms at high infill to maintain strength or use few walls and fill with resin from a syringe.

Use infill on at least the first third of the head to prevent air printing inside the mouth.

Use low to medium density fill in the fins to keep them light but sturdy.

I printed the body halves hollow and filled those with epoxy resin but they would probably be fine with low density fill.

Post-Printing

I had a lot of success using a soldering iron to make clean holes in parts so that I could use a syringe and fill the parts with a two-part epoxy resin to strengthen (but use a respirator!). A drill has the potential to split and crack your prints but melting a hole won't do that.

I also filled certain parts with plaster to give them weight.
