A life size replica of the Royal Shield or Royal Guard Shield from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.  Measures 800mm in height and 460mm in width (unless you want to scale it, of course).

What's Provided

There are a few files included, all based on the same model:

RoyalShield_FullThick.stl: A one-piece model whose minimum thickness is 20mm.
RoyalShield_FullThin.stl:  A one-piece model whose minimum thickness is 1.3mm.
RoyalShield_TopQuarter.stl:  One of the top quadrants of the FullThin model.
RoyalShield_BottomQuarter.stl:  One of the bottom quadrants of the FullThin model.
RoyalShield.f3d:  Fusion 360 file which the stls were created from, in case you want to tweak the model.

The quarter pieces are ready-to-print parts for large printers, such as the CR-10.  The one-piece parts are useful if you want to split the model in a way differently than I have.

Design

The reason I designed the model to be very thin is to minimize the printing time and material cost while trying to keep as strong as I could (i.e. minimizing the air gap between the front and back walls).  I do plan on reinforcing the back of the shield with thin wood slats on the seams, and possibly even using fiberglass.

If you would like a custom thickness (between 1.3 and 20mm), I may be able to provide another version.  But please, do respect that I have limited time and may not be able to satisfy your needs.

Printing

These are the settings I used for printing.  I intend to use the shield for display purposes, so I valued speed and amount of material above strength.  If you intend to use the shield for play or it has a higher likelihood of being damaged, these settings probably won’t work for you.

I also printed my shield at 90% scale, since it seemed a little big to me at full size.

Printer: CR-10S
Nozzle Width: 0.60mm (not standard for this printer)
Filament: Paramount 3D PLA – Iron Red
Temperature: 210 for nozzle.  55 for bed.
Layer Height: 0.32mm generally.  Dropped to 0.16mm for the heavily overhanging section near the top of the TopQuarter.
Layer Pattern: Vase mode with 5 solid bottom layers
Print Speed: Minimum 15 seconds per layer since I didn’t have a cooling fan.
Adhesion: A wide skirt which I taped to the bed.

My Total Print Time: About 20 hours for the entire shield.
