I made this as a gift for a friend of mine who is running a Star Wars RPG that I play in. Our party travels in a modified Ghtroc 720, so I set out to recreate that vehicle.

My friend also plays the X-wing miniature game, so my goal was to create a model that would work in both games.

The quad-laser turret is non-canon (puns!), but I added it because it is part of the modifications my party has done in the RPG. I made it optional for if you prefer a standard G720.

I owe a big thanks to cyberia23 on 3D Warehouse, whose original design I modelled this after. And also to AdamKop on deviantart, whose Ghtroc 720 render gave me a lot of design inspiration.

Notes:

I designed this model specifically with SLA and DLP printing in mind. The model is hollow and has a lot of surface detail, so I do not think it will print well at all on an FDM.

For the X-wing miniatures game this model should ideally be printed at about 450%, but I could only fit it on my Anycubic Photon at 425%. At 425% the model comes out about the same size as the Millennium Falcon YT-1300 model.

I printed it standing almost vertically, at an 80 degree incline. I used numerous heavy supports on the bottom of the model, but left the top of the model almost complete support free (see my photos) to preserve detail.

The turret is a bit trickier, it is so tiny that I had to print it at a 40 degree angle with very few supports.

Post-Printing

The model is hollow, and the drain holes are fairly small. Be careful when washing the model after printing to make sure that all the resin is drained from the model.

The turret is very tiny, I recommend blasting with UV as soon as the print is done, and then attaching it to the model immediately afterwards to prevent warping.

How I Designed This

Starting with cyberia23's model in Blender, I used a shrinkwrap mod to create a new model with a solid outer shell suitable for printing. I then made a bunch of modifications to the shell to suit my personal design and to match the ship from the RPG.

Finally, I modelled an insert inside of the shell so that it would be hollow when it was printed. I connected the insert to the shell at two points to create drain holes so that excess resin could easily be removed from the model.
