I created this model for my wife as she was working on a book about the Vestal Virgins: ancient Roman priestesses who dedicated their lives to watching an eternally burning fire in their temple.
Although the temple is still partially standing, it has mostly crumbled away and very little of the original building is left. Through historical research, we were able to piece together a rendition of how the temple likely looked.
I thought the temple would make a great entry into the Thingiversity Art Challenge: See The World Contest, so I tweaked the model to allow for easier printing and assembly and I am re-upload this newer version. I have also added an assembly video https://youtu.be/KYSF8zDNJPA
Enjoy.
This model has been cut into 3 separate pieces so that it can be fully printed without any supports. To join the segments together, cut 5 ½” segments of standard 1.75mm filament and place them in the internal holes that are meant to guide the three pieces together. I recommend using some cyanoacrylate glue of your choosing to bond the three pieces together (see assembly picture for information on how the three pieces fit together).
I printed this out on my Replicator 2, using Makerbot White PLA filament. I printed it with 2 shells, .2mm layer thickness and 10% infill. My wife then painted the temple to give it a little more of a realistic look.
