I have no experience in CAD, etc, but wanted to produce something relatively original so I decided to try a bit of photogrammetry.
So, this is my first attempt, however, it will not be perfect.
The images show the original model and printed result. Further images show the original and finished model together, for comparison.
I would be interested to receive any comments, advice or constructive criticism to enable me to make improvements.
Printer:
Creality CR-10
Rafts:
Doesn't Matter
Supports:
No
Resolution:
0.1
Infill:
20
Filament: RS Pro PLA White
Notes:
As the bottom of the model is not level, I was tearing my hair out trying to figure out a solution to get the first layers, which were a total mess, to stick to the print bed. I tried supports which enabled the base to be printed but, again, it was a mess.
I then noticed the cut off bottom option, in Cura, (EUREKA!!!!),so I set that at 5 and the print was successful with a flat base. However, having lost some of the thickness of the base, I probably could have got away with less than a setting of 5.
You will, probably, want to scale down the model before printing.
Apart from trimming away the brim which is, probably not necessary, no other post printing adjustments were made, other than painting.
I used a Nikon 5300 DSLR camera, (F8) and a rotating turntable. Lighting was provided with a portable photographic booth with LED strip lighting plus an additional pair of photographic lamps.
A total of 180 images were obtained but not all were necessarily used.
Images were processed using 3Df Zephyr Lite. As I am a novice with the techniques I am sure there is scope for a lot of improvement.
Great fun, if you have the time, and I'm sure there will be more to come.
