The Souryu class submarine is Japan's latest generation of diesel submarine.
The Souryu features cutting edge technology in submarine design, such as X-shaped tail fins, which provide greater stability in shallow water, and Air independent Propulsion (AIP), allowing the Souryu class greater underwater endurance, as it can recharge its batteries without having to snorkel or surface.
