My attempt at a replica of the Alfred Jewel, based on various pictures gleaned from around the Web.  It is thought to be an aestel, the handle for a book pointer.

The real thing has an enameled picture mounted inside at the bottom, magnified by a large, teardrop-shaped lens of clear quartz.  I couldn't replicate that so I ended up using a paper image, which seems kind of cheesy.  Still, it's a start.

Fans of the series Detectorists may find this of some interest.

Notes:

Modeled in Blender.

There are two "collar" files, "collar.stl" and "collar-solid.stl".  You can print either one.  The collar attaches to the front of the head and is supposed to be the mount for a dowel.  "collar.stl" has a hole in one end that was intended to hold a pencil, but doesn't really work very well.  In any case, I included the "solid" version in case anyone else wants to have a go at it.

Only the main body (with the lettering) requires supports.  The body, head, and collar all snap together.  The bottom plate should fit securely into a groove in the bottom of the main body (you will need to bend it a little to push it into place) and the "image frame" should fit into a similar groove on top of the main body, which you can install by pushing it in from above.

I didn't find a good way to reproduce the enameled image at this scale so I ended up printing it on photo paper and gluing it to the inside of the image frame tray.
