A rendition of the lightsaber used in Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast, I have intentions to start dressing as Kyle Katarn here in the coming season.

This still in progress, has not yet been printed, and should be treated as a v.9

I still need to:

  1. Wrap Up Details

  2. Slice model with a focus on ease of printing

  3. Test Print settings, return to step 2 when necessary, update this listings with said settings

  4. Slice model with additional options for electronics/mechanical integration

This'll be my first project I've uploaded, please rip it apart.

How I Designed This

Step 1

I located several references, settling on:

https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/a/a8/Kyle_Katarn_saber.jpg

As my primary reference, I added this image as my canvas and scaled it to 12 inches in length and 1.6 inches in diameter.

Step 2 (All General Blocking)

Bit by bit I added features, blocking them out with rectangles and rotating them around the primary core axis.

HOWEVER, there was one particular feature which caused considerable consternation: The repeated nubs near the bottom of the model

  1. I ended up creating a rectangle off the main body

  2. Rotation extrude it 10 degrees

  3. Cut the rounded top off

  4. Create a rectangle sketch smaller than the base of the nub, offset to the bottom, and lofted from the base of the nub to the new rectangle

  5. Created two identical sketches on either side of the nub, identifying the 'indention'

  6. Cut the Area between them out

  7. Delete the two 0 depth faces left around it

  8. Re-project the faces

  9. (And 10,11,12) Press the for sides of the slice to get the indention seen around them

I really need to learn a better option for that.
