F-104 Starfighter, aka 'widowmaker', 'hatpin', and 'flying coffin', is the result of a big engine in a minimal airframe. Very fast, with good acceleration and climb, but it "banked with the intent to turn", and had other problems which made it accident-prone.

The shiny-ness is from an experiment using clear nail-polish and cyanoacrylates to strengthen the tiny bits.
The wings and stabs are less than .5mm thick and the tip-tanks are very fragile as well... the tips break off easily.
