Northrop YA-9 was in the A-X program along with the A-10 Thunderbolt 2.
The YA-9 performed quite well and had fighter-like handling, and was faster between the two planes, but the Warthog was chosen as the Air Force felt it had better survivability.
Like the A-10, it also would have had the GAU-8 Avenger gun.
