The JagerMeister Chalise

Oh well, bare with me on this one, a longish story.. :)

Since I am new to 3D printing, but already did enough small samples, I wanted to make a proper piece with my printer. So here is something for all the Game of Thrones fans to do while waiting the next episode to come out. The chalice is completely fictional and own desing, but looks weird enough for a cool first big test piece.

Anyway, I wanted to test the printers limits and not use any supports. As you can see on the small test piece, I added some vertical bars after printing it. Even after that I needed to make them a bit bigger to stand up straight during the nozzle wiggle. Also I upped the fill to 30% just to be sure.

Calculation time for the print was 23h (0.1mm / 30% fill). But since my first piece failed I dialed the speed down to 75-85%. Specially on all the crusial bridge moments of the first 100 mm. And during the night I used the more silent (and slower) stealth mode. So the total time was wayyy over 30h.

As I said, I am new to this and I wanted to learn, test and to make a cool max height piece. And that is 210 mm with the Prusa Mk3s, so here we go. The widest part of the chalice is 130 mm so its a chunky one too (76 meters of PLA inside :)

The Chalice - or goblet if you will - has many random shapes extruded in/out. Also the text "JÄGERMEISTER" engraved in the center with a slow as hell gothic font. They all turned out fine. Downsides: as you can see from the pictures (model not touched after printing) the tubes have some webbing. Also some grooves on the lower part of the bowl, on one side only. But overall I am very happy with how it ended up. Avoid the webbing on the tubes. Because if its too ruff they might wiggle with the nozzle until they break the whole tube free from the bottom plate.

Feel free to try it with your printer. Most testpieces I found are very useful, but also kind of boring. However, dont scale this down too much. For example 50% will not work. I would not go below 75% for a final print, but as I said, I am new to this so just estimating with the knowledge I have so far. You might be better at it and have a different machine or maybe bigger/smaller nozzle size. (Prusa standard 0.4 mm used on this one)

You can also cut the top, just before the text rim in the middle of the bowl part. That way you still get a funky chalise, even if you are not a Jegermeister fan. However, all tru fans of this epic herbal medicine will print it all the way up.

Some during print pics and a quick render from SolidWorks also there for you to see. Happy slicing :)
