Replica of Thomas Jefferson's University of Virginia Rotunda.
Printer: Flash Forge Creator Pro
Rafts: Yes
Supports: No
Infill: 10%
Notes:
I printed this with Hatchbox Glow in the Dark PLA. 210 deg C, 60 deg C bed to prevent warping and used painters tape. The bed temp was overkill - recommend starting low and increasing 10 deg C until warping goes away (if you have that problem). For scaling, recommend printing largest length at least 150 mm. Larger and you'll have to try some custom supports. The dome is hollow and contains the internal columns, bookshelves, and two sets of rails. Windows are "open" so you can view the inside. Side walls are in progress and will surround the building, arch windows, under-arch, and railings.
Proportions
Dimensions were based on a single value obtained from Thomas Jefferson's sketch - 77-ft diameter. The remaining proportions were based on a research paper from Rachel Fletcher, "An American Vision of Harmony - Geometric Proportions in Thomas Jefferson's Rotunda at the University of Virginia", Nexus Network Journal, Vol. 5, No. 2, 2003 [A great read on a number of levels]. Other details were taken from a multiple photos from the internet.
The Oculus consists of 28 slats/windows but for this size I reduced the quantity and increased the thickness.
