I have flatten the front face of numbers so it's possible to use M600 via plugins or scripts to automate the filament color change.
If you use 0.2mm layers, start with black, at layer 28 change to white and at layer 31 change back to black.
In Simplify3D I use the scripts:
{REPLACE "; layer 28," ";change filament \nM600 \n; layer 28"}
{REPLACE "; layer 31," ";change filament \nM600 \n; layer 31"}
Remember to get and print the arms from original design.
