Summary

Use this customizable clamp to mount your smartphone on the air frame of your car.

Just measure or google the thickness and width of your smartphone and put them into the customizer app. Take into account the extra thickness or width when using a smartphone cover.
Most air frames are oriented horizontally, but if the air frame of your car is rotated at a certain angle, then you can rotate the clamp to keep your smartphone horizontal.

The clamp is easy to print and does not require any support. I printed it in PLA at 100% infill to give the clamp that extra bit of strength. I turn off the air ventilation on the air frame where the clamp is installed. This keeps both the smartphone cool and the clamp stiff

To use it, just slide your smartphone sideways into the clamp, and then mount the clamp on your air frame. Make sure your smartphone fits tightly in the bracket (it shouldn't be able to move around). The clamp should also fit tightly on the air frame. If this isn't the case, better print a new clamp.

That's it! enjoy!

update 17/07/2016:

  • Just wanted to say thanks to anyone who has liked, collected, downloaded and/or printed the model. It makes me feel good to know that this is something which is useful for a lot of people.

  • I noticed that the clamp can lose some if it's clamping force if you leave it on the air frame for days (it will deform a little bit). I think it's better to take off the clamp after you have used it, so it holds it shape). Maybe printing it a little bit thicker (3mm for example) could also be better.

  • Apparently, using values like 70.00 and 70. generate errors in customizer (but not in openscad). I added a note in the code to remind users of this.
