The Bell Airacuda was an interwar design based around the concept of a heavy fighter. This idea would later lead into the P-38 Lightning for the US, the Westland Whirlwind for the British and the ME-110 for the Germans. However the Airacuda with its two manned 30mm cannons in each pod made it too slow and unmanuverable to be a fighter. It fit more perfectly in the light bomber range but only 13 were ever built
