This is the Dominion Rod from the Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess and it makes an appearance in three forms in The Legend of Zelda Hyrule Warriors. The main function of the rod in the game is to control ancient statues that will help you defeat enemies and solve puzzles.
I have designed it with a great attention to detail so that it may be printed and used as an amazing prop for anyone looking to cosplay with it.
This is one of my favorite Designs I have uploaded so far and i intend on making further designs from The Legend of Zelda franchise, if you have any ideas or would like to see something else made shoot me a message and i will try my best to make whatever it is that you would like.
Happy Printing :)
This is not a step by step guide but rather an idea of how i go about making most of my designs.
Firstly i make a rough model without any detail just to get a working plane for more detailed parts
After i have made a basic mock up of the model (in this case i revolved the base of the rod) i begging to look at the larger details such as the fins that surround the shaft. once i have determined what is a large part of the model and what can be saved for later i start adding other dimensions and surfaces ( next step was extruding one of the fins and using to circular pattern command to replicate it on the two other sides) using the circular pattern command ensures that it is exactly the same on all of the sides so that there is no descrepency later down the road.
once i have one set of fins complete i fully detail it, cutting designs into the surface and making it seem as though its all one piece on just something tacked on.
after one of the fins is detailed i use the circular pattern command and copy it over to the other fins (it doesn't always like to copy all of the features so i go in a tweak what didn't copy and make it look like the original)
after one major deatil of the part is complete i rinse and repeat the process for the other fins.
after all of the fins were complete i began to work on smaller detail work such as the beads at the top and the arrow like shape between the fins on the center of the rod (that arrow pattern took way to much time as i could not engrave it into the part because it just didn't) .
once that was complete i recreated the original revolution sketch in a new sketching plane and then cut away from the original to make the band like objects that can be sen near the bottom and middle of the rod.
After all of that was complete i added small detail work and tweaked some of the original sketches to make it seem more flowing and less blocky, mainly to match the theme of which this item is used in the game ( given to you by gods or beings of great power and used to solve clever puzzles throughout the game i figured it had better look godly and unique, and blocky did not fit that description :P ).
once all of that was done i messed with some of my chamfers and fillets to really make some parts POP more then others so that some small details would not be overlooked
And that is how i went about designing this prop i know its not a thorough description but i used some very harebrained methods that would take way to long to try and describe and detail. But this method holds true to most things i make. Starting with a base and then adding more base elements, getting a rough idea of the details and then tweaking it to perfection ( or what i like to think is perfection)
I hope this helps anyone looking to begging designing props and stuff like I do.
