After watching the video for the original file and hearing how much post-processing was needed on this model I decided to remix it and split it up so I could print it with as minimal supports as possible.
The results were fantastic. It came out smooth and I had to do very little sanding, mostly on some of the seams. Sprayed with primer and painted, all-in-all it did not take as much effort as I was anticipating.
I know this is an old model, but this was a special request for a 7 y/o boy - hopefully this helps someone else.
BONUS: there is enough play to make the head articulate (which I did). You can simply put a small rubber band on where the head connects and it will keep it in place and allow it to turn.
