Post-Printing
Putting together the Cockpit
I added a cockpit to the original design. It comes in three main parts (plus three small console elements) that are glued together. Then it slides into the hull model (some sanding needed for good fit).
Designing and Assembling the Reaper
The Reaper is used as a stand for the Cyclops. It's fangs and mouth are shaped to align with the submarine's geometry.
It comes in 5 parts (it's pretty big!), some sanding needed so everything fits perfectly.
The Reaper's fins have small tunnels going through them, so they can reinforced by 1.5mm steel rods. (Screenshots from a smaller test print).
I used lots of XTC-3D Smooth-On, Frog Tape and sand paper in the process.
For trying out the color scheme I printed out the Reaper at 1:4 scale (doesn't print that well at that scale). I opted for "Muted Aqua", "Vanilla" and "Orange Spice" (all Craftsmart from Michael's) as base colors.
Some Glam Shots
Photoshoot with black background. Painting of the submarine was done with Krylon COLORmaxx Paint+Primer (Satin Oxford Blue and Satin Island Splash). Both models got a coat of Krylon COLORmaxx Clear (Gloss Crystal Clear).
On the Reaper without the submarine I was happy you barely see the flattened nose/teeth that hold teeth submarine.
Acrylic Dome (bought separately)
Schematics of the acrylic dome I bought for $9 plus shipping.
