This Klingon Disruptor is one of my favorite models on thingiverse. But it takes a good bit of post-printing work to clean up as it needs a lot of supports to print and the supports are in places where they will seen. That's great if you're going to clean up and paint the model, but hey, I'm lazy, so...

I separated the pieces and reoriented them so that the supports would print in places where they wouldn't be seen. I also separated the barrel into individual pieces so that I could print the emitter very strong so it doesn't break, but not using extra filament printing the rest of the barrel that strong when it doesn't need it.

I've included my holster for this disruptor here as well. You can find the other versions (with no Klingon emblem, for instance) here.

Print Settings

Printer:

Homemade

Rafts:

No

Supports:

Yes

Resolution:

0.2

Infill:

25%

Notes:

Print everything in the orientation that it loads in. Turn on supports for everything, assuming your slicer is smart enough to know when they are not necessary. (I use Cura which is definitely smart enough.)

You'll need two "barrel-wing" and two "barrel-wing-crispy" pieces. Glue them together with the patterned side of the "crispy" facing outward, obviously.

Print the emitter piece extra strong because it can easily break if you knock the finished model against anything too hard. I used 4 shells and 60% infill. In my unofficial stress tests (snapping the piece with my hands) any more shells or any higher infill didn't add any strengths. But YMMV of course, so feel free to print it solid.

If it's not obvious from the photo how the pieces go together, see the original model as it has an Order of Assembly.
