This is a replica of the Confession Dial prop, seen in series 9 of Doctor Who.
The Confession Dial is the last will and testament of a Time Lord. It allows a dying Time Lord to face their demons and make their peace before their mind is uploaded to the Matrix
When I was sick recently, I rewatched series 9 of Doctor Who to keep myself entertained. The Confession Dial was a lovely concept in the show, and a beautiful prop. The intricate carvings on it felt so complicated and mysterious, yet it's all basic geometric shapes arranged in interesting ways. As I started to feel better and get a bit stir crazy, I decided the only thing to do was replicate this prop.
First I traced the designs on the top, based on official design artwork released by the BBC, using Illustrator. Once that was done, I exported it as an SVG into Fusion 360, and built the disc around it. This was my first time trying to carve a design into an object in Fusion 360, so there was a bit of trial and error involved. But it came together eventually, and I am very pleased with the result.
The dial shown in the pictures is the first print I made of it, and it came out very well. However I do plan on painting it and possibly weathering it a bit, but haven't had the chance to do so yet.

7%
Notes:
I printed with a raft and supports, but the raft may not be essential. If you have good bed adhesion, you could print without the raft. There is no detail on the back of the dial, so it doesn't matter much how the first layers turn out. The infill is an arbitrary number, Simplify3D has some odd ideas about what infill percentages mean, and I've found that 7% is the best number for most of the printing I do.
