This is a model of the "Palacio de Bellas Artes" (Palace of Fine Arts), it's a cultural center located in Mexico City.

There are two versions - one with holes (V2.7) in case you want to try to add a couple of LED's to the model, and a solid model (V2.9)

I focused on making it somewhat accurate, while also cutting corners so that it would print well.

For example, I had to make all the columns bigger so they would print decently, and I simplified parts of the building both on purpose (and because I wasn't paying attention!)

I recommend printing at the imported size (the length is 125 mm) or larger. It may be the printer or filament (glow in the dark) that I'm using, but the columns seem to have trouble printing all the way up even after I increased their size.

I was inspired to try my hand at this model after seeing MiniWorld's models - they're incredible, check out his designs here: https://www.thingiverse.com/MiniWorld/designs

Please note - due to an oversight on my part, there are unsupported 90 degree overhangs on this model. So far, with the two models I've printed all I've had to do is cut away some stringing caused by the overhangs, the model looks fine when finished.

The video below shows the LED version with one light shining towards the top of building.

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

Wanhao

Printer:

Wanhao Duplicator i3 V2

Rafts:

Doesn't Matter

Supports:

No

Resolution:

.3 mm

Infill:

20% ish

Notes:

I printed this slowly (35mm/s). I also had trouble with warping on the corners, but this is probably due to the filament.

How I Designed This

I used google earth to get images of the back of the building, and high quality photos for the front and sides.
I then imported one of the front images into fusion 360, and built it up from there with sketches, extrusions, lofts, etc.
