The Geta shoe is an example where we can look to the past to see the future. We are no more than five to ten years away from great advances in home 3d printing. The big constraint as I see it, is the ability for end users to design functional items via software. By looking to the past simple designs can be leveraged to take advantage of this emerging technology.
Its very clear that 3d printing at home will transition from a toy making hobby into an important field that will allow people to produce functional and unique items for everyday use. Formlabs is introducing an SLS printer that allows for the printing of heavy duty, high quality, nylon parts at home. For us home designers and enthusiasts, leveraging the past and keeping things simple.

I extended the Sole length 1cm more than anticipated in the calculations below.
I put ridges into the top surface to improve the structure of the sandal, I also added some structure between the "Ha's". I may/may not print this item. For me this was an exercise in building Fusion 360 skills.
