I got to thinking, there's not always an Imperial Navy ship in orbit. Some of these worlds in the Imperium have major continents separated by large oceans. Wouldn't it make sense for these worlds to have some kind of naval power?

Well, turns out there was a short story about just such a world. One continent had been settled by humans, the one on the other side of the planet was infested with Orks. Aircraft didn't really have the range to fly over, so the two didn't encounter each other for a long time. But when they did make contact the planetary defense forces found it necessary to repel large ork flotillas.

Anyway, I started imagining this after watching the movie Battleship. Yeah, I wanted to build one. So here it is. As shown she sports 9 quake cannons, and more quad guns and Icarus Lascannons than you can throw dice at. She's large enough to play a game on her decks while shelling the battle on another table. That's actually how we've used similar things in my shop.

For Epic 6mm scale, print at .2

How I Designed This

Reality Check...

Okay, here's the brutal truth. You're not going to print this monster. She's just too darn big. Ten feet from bow to stern, almost two feet across the beam. You'll be hard pressed to slice it into small enough pieces. Though by all means, prove me wrong if you can. This is an example of how I use my CAD program to design and plan my 40K scenery builds.

As for me, I'm going to invest in the GW bitz and build her the old fashioned way.

So you really want to build one?

I designed this to be constructed with existing GW bitz and a few printed special pieces to fit it all together. Here's the rundown of the kits you'll need.

20x Imperial Bastions
4 Firestorm Redoubts
1 Skyshield Landing Platform
1 Sanctum Imperialis
1 Basilica Administratum (at least. 6 if you want all the buttresses, and I'm still not sure you'd have enough of the railings..)
1 Shrine of the Aquila

Also, start investing in plasticard strips. The sides of the hull are made with 79mm plasticard strips on top of the Bastion base pieces.
